Documentary Film Fundraiser Brings Featured Artists to Downtown Wilmington

Billy Hill Productions will present work from three featured artists in an art exhibition fundraiser, Saturday, Sep. 11, 2010 at The Bottega, 208 North Front Street in downtown Wilmington from 10a.m. to 5p.m., followed by a special event from 8p.m. to    9:45p.m.  Admission is open to the public.

James Billy Hill III, founder of Billy Hill Productions, will be raising funds for his film, “Troubled Waters,” a documentary revealing one of the world’s worst cases of mass poisoning, a town struggling to stay alive and a group of people fighting to keep them alive.

The film features Jim Hill, a seasoned missionary, who stumbles upon a small town 12,000 feet above sea level in the Puna region of Argentina. He hears San Antonio de los Cobres is being poisoned by the very thing it needs to survive: water.

The exhibition coincides with Wilmington’s Annual Art Walk. The day event will feature original work from prominent artists, along with Argentine wine and Hors D’ oeuvres.

The evening event ensues with a presentation from the producer and director, James Billy Hill III. James will give an exclusive preview of the film’s trailer, as well as present an intimate account of the overwhelming journey to providing such a secluded and helpless region in the world the chance to not only survive, but prosper where once only despair was anyone’s hope.

Featured artists include Ben Keys, one of Wilmington’s own and finest. Represented by prominent galleries throughout the country and collected internationally, Keys chooses to make his home right here among us.  Keys focuses on plein air landscapes inspired by the painterly style and interest in light of French Impressionism.

Jennifer Stein is a third generation artist currently focused in mixed media. With her first works merely hobby driven, Stein’s recent fame found her more than she found it. Now featured in art galleries of Davidson, NC, Jennifer is a driving force of colorful creativity splashed on the backs of broken wood.

Chris Underwood bridges the gap between imagination and an eclectic finish. Underwood teaches art and holds creative workshops in a Charlotte-area private school. His work has been represented in various states across the nation. Underwood draws from a place we can all understand, his art is “an appeal to memory- something weathered and enhanced over time.”
